Video Conferencing with Year 6

Today marked the start of a video conference project.

We linked up with Oakdale Junior School and Wanstead Church School.

We are planning on meeting up once a week after Christmas to challenge each others science knowledge. We will be teaching each other about the science topics we have learnt about and quizzing each other on our science knowledge.

Today we had the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the other year 6 classes. We had all prepared some questions which we could ask to both schools.

(Oakdale Juniors on Screen)

We did have a few initial technical problems but it was quickly sorted out and our 3 way Video Conference started. We had a few rules which meant that each school had to keep there microphone muted while the others spoke - this made sure that the school on screen was the school talking.

This was a great starting point to the project and we are looking forward to the next meet up.

Drama Group - Freedom Roads Workshop!

Last week, we were visited by the Freedom Roads drama group. The group are part of the London Metropolitan Archives and they brought many resources from the archives to show us.
We learnt about the basic Human Rights which include: food, water, shelter and education.
We thought about many people around the world who are deprived of these rights!

Year 6 took part in 4 different workshops including: poetry, drama, posters and dance (known as Capoeira).

We had a lot of fun!

Parachutes

In Science, we have been learning about air resistance.

Mr Meban used his expertise to talk to the year group about parachutes.
We learnt about some of the important factors that make the parachute work!
We watched some exciting footage of the expert in action. We even had a chance to try on the safety suit and see the wind catch in the parachute.

Science - Light Day

In science, we have been investigating light and shadows. We conducted a series of experiments during 'Light Day.' We found out about the direction of light and that it only travels in straight lines. We experimented to see which materials allow light to pass through. Most of our predictions were correct.

We also found out that the 'closer the light source is to the object, the larger the shadow.'
